A closer look at Batman’s new suit

So here’s the new poster from The Dark Knight. Absolutely shiver inducing, is it not? The poster arrives just days after Warner Brothers surprised the audience at the New York Comic Con with the debut of the third trailer (which is going to be released within 2 weeks or so).

I have a large compartment of turbo geek built into my psyche, which releases nerd goo every time something related to this movie comes out.

That being said, I am not a fan of the new suit. As one of the guys over at the Superhero Hype message boards pointed out- it makes Batman look like Bibleman. That’s true, and is not a good starting point.

The new suit looks way too complicated and reminds me of the Schumacher era. I am somewhat annoyed by the flimsy and fragile neck area. Have another peek:

It makes his head seem massively inflated while completely overpowering the neck. It also looks like a bobblehead. I doubt this was the costume designer’s intent:

The whole thing is also very bird-like. Take another gander:

Notice the quaint little beak and again, the disproportionate head-to-neck ratio. In the photo above, he appears to be eager for a splash in a park fountain.

I am lastly reminded of this trinket from the first Darkman movie. You’ll have to think hard to remember its scene (if you were unfortunate enough to see Darkman in the first place). The toy below is known as “the drinking bird,” and apparently Batman is going to look like one in The Dark Knight.  Do you agree?

Birdman or Batman, I’ll still be in the theater wearing my nerdy ‘I Believe in Harvey Dent’ t-shirt on July 18th.

Worthless Trivia: Bats are mammals.

  • they need to accomodate christian bale’s delicate facial features.

  • I prefer the first suit that was designed by Thomas Boodle (his “A” suit, not his “B” suit), more commonly known as the……

    Boodle - A - Suit

  • hahha, lovely Bear!

  • I, much like yourself, prefer the “swoot” pronunciation while saying the word “suit”.

Anyway, why do they leave the mouth open on the swoot? What a convenient way for the enemy to administer dangerous particles in to the circulatory system… not to mention chapped lips on a blustery day!

They could cover the mouth with an advanced filtration system.

Has anyone noticed that if you happen to be friends with Ian, that this instantly qualifies you as a distinguished, gifted writer?

    lol

  • lol…okay I am laughing so hard I can’t even speak….lol. My family is looking at me.

SO is this your brother? lol…it is genetic.
I needed this …more than you know.

  • the kate: bale is a tender man with a supple frame. embrace him.

bear: another homerun from Yordy’s Build-a-Pun Emplorium.

Taz: leave the filtration systems to Brita- “adding black pebbles to semi-filtered water in homes across America.”

    Beth: ’tis my brother :)

Hader: why do your eyes burn with passion in that photo? Tony Robbins would be proud.

  • Hahaa. The Brita comment reminded me of your long ago version of “Deep Thoughts” featuring a famous pain killer med… let’s see if I can remember it.

“I think it would be fun to trick everyone and make an exciting new pain relief medication that didn’t didn’t really work… and I’d call it Bayer”.

    LOL!

  • that’s dangerously close to the actual quote, Taz! I can’t believe you remember that :)

  • I dont like the suit Its not batman, the way he should look.I still think the dead end batman short movie flick Had a better costume then this one.Its sad they never can get batman right. It looks as If he relys more on his suit then his pure martial arts skill. the suit limits his fighting stlye. He kind of reminds me of darth vader brother.

  • Im looking forward more to gotham knight cartoon, The japanese I bet could make a better batman movie given the chance, hell i could make a better batman movie then chris nolan,of course I would preferr not to use the stupit batman suit they never seem to change ever since the first batman movie.

  • hey angel- yeah the dead end fan film was pretty good considering the budget. i agree with you that the suit limits his movements.

let me know what you think of gotham knight once you watch it. i’m waiting for a recommendation.
