Now Hear This: Rob Dickinson’s ‘Fresh Wine for the Horses’

Rob Dickinson was the lead singer of Catherine Wheel. You remember- that four-piece alternative rock act who received an honorary “favorite band ever” trophy during an imaginary ceremony in my head. The guys from Great Yarmouth, England released what is likely the greatest album of all time- ‘Chrome,’ and played a show in Vancouver, BC in support of their fourth album ‘Adam and Eve ‘ which was easily the best concert experience of my life. Is there a pattern forming here?
The band lost steam after their sixth disc ‘Wishville‘ and haven’t been together since. Some time after that, Dickinson released his solo debut ‘Fresh Wine for the Horses’ in 2005.
That album is getting reissued, and it is my duty to help spread the word. The new version will have some additional appeal for everyone from brand spanking new fans to fervant idiots like myself.
Read on to get the scoop and if you’ve got a few extra minutes, give him a listen over at his myspace page. I will make any person this bet: go see Rob Dickinson live, and if you are anything less than blown away, I’ll reimburse the cost of your ticket. Hearing his voice in person will melt your face. Brace for it.

ROB DICKINSON RETURNS WITH DOUBLE DISC SOLO DEBUT FRESH WINE FOR THE HORSESAlbum in stores June 10 on Fontana International
May 19, 2008, Toronto, ON – The long-awaited solo debut from Rob Dickinson, Fresh Wine for the Horses, is scheduled for re-release June 10, 2008 on Fontana International. After two years of touring and steady sales of the album, the brand new song “The End of the World” plus a bonus disc containing six newly recorded Catherine Wheel classics have been added to the repackaged set.
Many will recall Britain’s Catherine Wheel, the band Dickinson fronted in the 90′s, as one of the most range-roaming, seminal and viscerally intense alternative-rock bands of that decade. Since the band was “parked”, Dickinson has been writing the fantastic songs that appear on this breathtaking collection. Handpicked by legendary producer Bob Ezrin of Pink Floyd, Kiss, Lou Reed and Catherine Wheel fame, Fresh Wine For The Horses was presented to Fontana International on a silver platter and a second chance given to the album begins a new chapter for the audacious performer. The other half of Rob’s spectacular 2-CD set, Nude, is an homage to his beloved Catherine Wheel. At the personal request of the head of label, Dickinson has re-recorded six choice Catherine Wheel songs and put a new twist on these old favourites. The stripped-down melodies still ring true years later.
“Re-recording these songs is like reuniting with old friends,” says Dickinson. “I hope that new listeners will fall in love with them and that those familiar with Catherine Wheel will find their passion for the tunes reignited.”

very cool! you’ll have to let me know your thoughts after giving them a few spins.
I didn’t include a link to Rob’s 2008 re-issue. So far amazon’s is a little iffy (they have the release date right but the track listing is from the first version).
Once I find a trustworthy pre-order link I’ll add it. Hopefully you’ll check that out too
