"Aguirre: The Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo" are two of the greatest movies ever made. It also helps that Klaus Kinski is the lead actor in both. In fact Kinski is another "character". If you are interested Herzog has a great documentry on him called "My Best Friend - Klaus Kinski".
